With a background as diverse as it is impressive, Nath’s 35-year career spans continents, industries, and achievements that have left an indelible mark on the engineering sector.

Building a Foundation in Engineering and Business
Rajesh Nath’s academic credentials laid the groundwork for his future successes. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration, he further enriched his knowledge with an International Business Program at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Joka. His career began in Germany, where he worked with Rheinische Kalksteinwerke and KHD Humboldt Wedag in pivotal roles that honed his expertise in environmental technology and market expansion.

    Pioneering VDMA’s Success in India
In 1999, Nath took on the role of General Manager at the Indian office of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA). His leadership skills quickly propelled him to the position of Director in 2002, and by 2008, he was at the helm as Managing Director. Under his guidance, the export of German machinery to India skyrocketed eightfold, and the number of VDMA members in India surged to 600. Nath’s strategic vision and deep understanding of both the Indian and German engineering sectors fostered unprecedented collaboration and growth.

Nath also championed trade delegations and international expos, opening global avenues for Indian companies. His focus on skill development led to technical workshops and training programs, enhancing the capabilities of Indian engineering professionals. Moreover, under his leadership, VDMA India produced insightful reports and market studies, becoming a valuable resource for industry stakeholders.

    Recognizing Excellence and Leadership
Rajesh Nath’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. In 2017, he received the Cross of the Order of Merit, Germany’s highest civilian honor, for his exceptional efforts in strengthening Indo-German economic relations. His leadership has also been recognized with several Leadership Excellence and Lifetime Achievement Awards from various industry bodies, celebrating his enduring impact on the engineering sector.

    Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Rajesh Nath envisions the Indian engineering industry as a global leader in innovation and sustainability. He advocates for embracing advanced technologies like Industry 4.0, automation, and digitalization. Nath foresees enhanced collaboration between Indian and German companies, leveraging each other’s strengths to address global challenges and create cutting-edge solutions.

His vision includes a robust ecosystem where industry, academia, and government collaborate to drive the engineering sector towards excellence and global competitiveness. Through these efforts, Nath aims to position the Indian engineering sector as a key player in the global market, characterized by high standards, innovative capabilities, and sustainable growth.
