ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has achieved a major milestone with the commissioning of its new Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL) at the flagship Hazira plant. This state-of-the-art facility is the first in India capable of producing Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) with strength levels up to 1180 MPa, marking a turning point for the nation’s automotive sector.

This cutting-edge facility will produce galvanised and galvannealed flat steel, offering exceptional safety, light-weighting, and fuel efficiency—key requirements for vehicles under India’s upcoming CAFE III norms (2027). The plant is part of AM/NS India’s ambitious ₹60,000-crore expansion plan, inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aimed at significantly increasing steelmaking capacity and indigenously meeting high-end demands that were previously import-dependent.

Dilip Oommen - CEO, AMNS India..“The commissioning of this world-class line is a defining step in our journey toward a self-reliant and sustainable India,” said Mr. Dilip Oommen, CEO, AM/NS India. “It reinforces our commitment to quality, innovation, and meeting the aspirations of a Viksit Bharat@2047.”

The CGL is built using global best practices from parent companies ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel and aligns with India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat missions. Designed for efficiency and sustainability, the facility incorporates advanced thermal control, regenerative drives, and hydrogen-based heating technologies to reduce CO₂ intensity.

Beyond Hazira, AM/NS India is expanding upstream and downstream capabilities, with new integrated plants planned in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The company is also accelerating its decarbonisation strategy, integrating renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies across operations.

This landmark commissioning positions AM/NS India not only as a domestic leader in high-grade steel but as a key enabler of India’s global competitiveness in advanced manufacturing.
