Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB), a leading FMCG company in India, has introduced a groundbreaking packaging innovation that significantly enhances sustainability and circularity in manufacturing. The new Affordable Small Sparkling Package (ASSP) utilizes advanced rPET (recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate) technology, achieving a remarkable 70% reduction in carbon emissions and setting a new benchmark in eco-friendly packaging.
This innovation reduces the amount of PET material used while maintaining the product’s quality, including carbonation retention and shelf life. The 250ml ASSP bottle is 100% recyclable, ensuring it can be processed alongside regular PET packaging, further supporting a circular economy. By incorporating rPET, HCCB reduces its reliance on virgin plastics, contributing to global sustainability goals and aligning with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) for Climate Change.
The initiative, led by HCCB’s Khurda plant in Odisha, represents a significant step toward reducing the environmental footprint of beverage manufacturing. The use of rPET in the ASSP packaging not only lessens plastic waste but also drives down carbon emissions, underscoring HCCB’s commitment to The Coca-Cola Company’s ‘World Without Waste’ initiative.
Himanshu Priyadarshi, Chief Public Affairs, Communications & Sustainability Officer at HCCB, remarked, “Our new ASSP packaging is a testament to our dedication to sustainable innovation. By pioneering circularity in packaging, we are reducing plastic use and carbon emissions, moving closer to our vision of a better, shared world.”
This breakthrough in sustainable packaging technology demonstrates HCCB’s leadership in promoting eco-friendly practices in the manufacturing industry, ensuring that environmental responsibility and product excellence go hand in hand.
